Program Overview

Despite advances in the treatment for multiple myeloma (MM), significant disparities exist for African American patients diagnosed with MM. For example, African American patients have a higher incidence of MM compared to White patients and mortality in MM is two times higher in African American patients than in White patients. Sources of disparities for African American patients include: differences in disease biology, modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, social and behavioral determinants, differences in access to quality care and clinical trials, amongst other factors. It is important that clinicians are aware of these disparities and inequalities and work to achieve equity in cancer care for African American patients with MM.

This Twitter-based Tweetorial will explore disparities and potential strategies to inequities in the management of patients with multiple myeloma.

Target Audience

This program is intended for Hematologists, Medical Oncologists, hematology and oncology fellows, and specialty advanced practice providers involved in the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma. Nurses, pharmacists, researchers, and other health care practitioners (HCPs) involved in the treatment of patients with RRMM may be interested in this program.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity series, the participant should be better able to identify disparities and potential strategies to inequities in the management of patients with multiple myeloma.
